Chronic Heel Pain?
If you’ve had heel pain for more than three months, it’s classed as a chronic condition.
This often involves thickening of the fibrous tissues within your ligaments or tendons, which means that stretching alone rarely provides lasting relief.
Professional treatment is usually needed to help your body heal effectively.
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, but there are several other conditions that can affect the heel.
A correct diagnosis is essential before any treatment plan is recommended.
At my clinic, I use a combination of shockwave therapy (ESWT), low-level laser therapy (LLLT), and orthotics if required, tailored to each patient’s needs.
I treat a range of conditions including:
-
Plantar Fasciitis
-
Achilles Tendinopathy
-
Posterior tendon disorders
-
Other lower leg and foot tendon or ligament injuries
My diary can get a little busy at times, if you are in pain and cannot find an appointment soon enough, email me and I will do my best to fit you in sooner.
Stretching exercise videos showing some of the stretches to help alleviate your heel pain. when doing the calf stretch exercise, it is important to not push the stretch too hard. Find the 'stretch point', this is the position where you can feel the stretch, but it is nice and comfortable. Hold this position, the stretch feeling should disapear within around 30 to 40 seconds. You should feel the stretch tension release, now go a little further with the stretch, find a new 'stretch point'. Again hold for 30 to 40 seconds, wait for the release (it should feel like you are no longer stretching). If you can still feel the stretch after 40 seconds, ease off. Repeat these stretches 3 times each session. Do a session every morning, evening and if you have time around lunchtime too.
What is Shockwave Therapy?
A probe is pressed on to the affected area and the shockwaves are delivered through the skin. The impulses are delivered through the skin as a shockwave that spreads inside the injured tissue as an aspherical ‘radial' wave. These radial shockwaves initiate an inflammation-like response in the injured tissue that is being treated, and prompts the body to respond naturally by increasing blood circulation, the number of blood vessels and therefore metabolism in the injured tissue.
The shockwaves are felt as pulses which are a little uncomfortable but not painful. Typically your first treatment will start with a low level of intensity. The procedure does not require any type of sedation or anaesthetic.
Shock-wave therapy treatments are usually performed at weekly intervals and most people require an average of 6 treatment sessions.
What is Laser Therapy?
Low Level Laser therapy is also known as PhotoBioModulation (PBM).
The therapeutic effects of PBM treatment were discovered by Endre Mester, a professor of surgery, who observed improved healing in tissue adjacent to his laser surgery but where only a low laser dose was received. His subsequent work provided the initial volume of evidence for the efficacy of laser in healing.

I have been suffering from pain in the side of my foot. After an assessment with Lee who talked me through every stage he suggested shockwave treatment. Over a number of sessions, starting with me being unable to handle the shocks through the most tender area in my foot, to ending with my pain dramatically reduced and being able to take treatment in the area I initially couldn’t. Lee also gave me instructions on stretch and strengthening exercises to continue my recovery. Lee is both friendly and professional and I would highly recommend him and the shockwave treatment.

Received excellent advice and treatment from Lee after having a problem with in my foot whilst visiting Monmouth. Firstly Lee managed to fit me in with short notice. The care and advice was fantastic. This was followed by various emails with added information and videos to clarify the exercises he suggested I do to relieve the pain. I was sent information about strapping my foot and to contact him if the pain didn’t subside.
Brilliant service, 10/10.

After suffering from an acute injury Lee used shockwave treatment to help encourage healing in both my plantar and Achilles tendons. I went from constant discomfort to only a tiny amount of pain first thing in the morning over 6-8 weeks. Lee was very good at arranging appointments to suit me and keeping in touch to see how I was progressing.

I went to Lee with pain in my heel and arch that had been worsening and stopping me from running. I had seen another podiatrist and their advice had not helped. Lee was knowledgeable and able to diagnose and treat me easily, with shockwave treatment and different foot pads/insoles as the injury improved. After 5 sessions I am now pretty much pain free and running again. I would strongly recommend Lee.

I can’t recommend Hook Podiatry highly enough! I went to see Lee thinking I had
Achillies tendinitis, but after a thorough assessment, he diagnosed me with Achilles tendinopathy – something I’d been struggling with for a long time and which had stopped me from doing one of my biggest passions: running.
After just six treatments, the improvement has been incredible — the pain is now almost completely gone, and I’m finally getting back to running again. Lee has honestly worked miracles to help me recover and rebuild my fitness.
Thank you so much, Lee — your expertise, care, and encouragement have made such a difference! 👏🏃♂️

After having plantar fasciitis for around 6 months and being in a lot of pain I was so happy to find Monmouth Podiatry.
Lee is very professional whilst being understanding, thorough and having an excellent way of explaining things to someone like myself who doesnt really understand injuries in the foot.
He is very reasonably priced and accommodating with regard to appointments.
I received shockwave therapy and laser therapy and feel so much better after 6 weeks.
Thank you Lee for getting my life back on track.
Top bloke thoroughly recommend.
Thank you so much,
Matthew
I had been struggling with my foot for years and after playing hockey in February 2025, I completely busied the bottom of my foot. I went to Lee as the NHS was going to take months.
I’m glad I did as Lee has worked miracles using shockwave therapy. He was able to diagnose my injury in ten minutes and was very detailed in his explanation of the treatment. He advised it would take weeks but I was fully healed and back to my old ways in 4 weeks.
On my journey Lee has always helped with new stretches and his constant support has been amazing.
I would recommend if you have any foot problems then Lee is the man to go to.

Painful feet wasn’t something I had ever experienced, but once I did, I was desperate to find the source of the problem and rid myself of it. I was fortunate to be guided to Lee at Hook Podiatry who treated my plantar fasciitis (the nasty name for a nasty condition) with care and professionalism. The treatment wasn’t painless, but was absolutely worth it. I can thoroughly recommend Lee.
